My Debate – Limiting Number of Tourists

Hello! I want to document my debate videos. Not just my good ones, but most of the debates I do, because I want to see how much I develop. This is the full motion for the debate I did.

Full motion: THBT major tourist destinations should significantly limit the number of tourists that can visit

I did this debate on July 24th and gave the Opposition Whip speech. I think what I did well was giving effective rebuttal such as the point that tourism is only seasonal and other businesses can be done together. Also, I pointed out that the Proposition side did not include tourists as an important stakeholder. I also gave a concise and effective roadmap at the beginning of the speech.

For improvements, I believe it could have been better if I articulated the economic benefits we get from large tourism and weighing against Prop’s points. I also wanted to talk about more points regarding tourists, especially the point that only rich people would be able to tour. I think I could have fit it in if the speech time was 8 minutes.

Regardless, I got a pretty high score and won the debate and I am happy about my performance.

I cut off POIs or POI offers that show the screen of other debaters for their privacy. In the part that I cut off, I was discussing that

• governments have different sections taking care of different roles, so they can control more issues than just tourism

• even if not a democratic system we know and we assume it is a autocracy, a division of labor is a basic method used

For the second part that I cut off, I was discussing that tourists cannot commit environmental crimes due to law.

All debate speeches are not crafted for hours. They are prepared within debate rules. In this debate, the prep time was 30 minutes. Research is forbidden and not done.
